Heat Deflector/ Airgap Mod?

I have a angle grinder with a cutting wheel so I fabricated my own out of one of my wives cookie sheets !!! (she doesn't know yet that I sacrificed one of her cookie sheets ) and yes it works !!! keeps barrel temps nice and stable !!!
This could be my last post once she discovers the cookie sheet missing, any suggestions on how to explain the missing cookie sheet ?
Amazon is your friend. You might have to buy a few different ones to get one that won't warp when heated though. LoL

Anyone here use the Heat Deflector/ Airgap Mod from SmokesLikeABoss or something similar to block the gap between the curved heat diffuser and the flat ledge it sits on? Does it really work as stated? It makes sense to me that the hot air would rise out through that gap and affect the temp probe, but I have not tested it.
I have two of them and they work perfect.. temp selected and temp gauges on the covers Match within 5 to 10 degrees!!!!

I have that mod and it made all the difference. In tenp control. I also have the fire box heat deflector Bith are great

I have done that modification as well as the fire pot diffuser. They both have improved my overall temperature fluctuation problems
I have done both modifications as well, Competition 850, afterwards, my barrel temp’s were 60-80 degrees higher than the setting of the controller. After some research here and my own experiments, I removed the probe cover and relocated the probe. Now I’m 25-40 over the fire pot, right on money on the left side of the barrel, -10 on the right side. Attached is what I have done. I did place a spacer for the left grate to rest upon.

I noticed on my initial burnoff that the temps were all over the place, then again when I seasoned the griddle that came with my 1600 pro.
Before the first time I cooked on the grill I did the air gap mod with one I made myself and the temps were within 5 degrees of what it was set at. Also the wild temp swings were not there the 2 times I've used the grill since the mod.

I also did the flame tamer and airgap mod on my 1150 ps3 whick made the temps across the grates more even. The funny thing is after the mods, whatever temperature I set it at, the barrel thermometer would would only go up about 50 degreess below that setting although the grate temperatures would read the same as the set temperature. Any thoughts or comments? Ive had the grill only about a month so Im still trying to work out the nuisances of using a pellet grill.

That sounds right, many of the long-time users say dont chase readings but let the smoker do its thing... finished product is ehat counts. ):(

I've cooked multiple times since I did the airgap mod and im still getting the same results. My set temp and what's showing on the screen are within 5 or so degrees of each other. I placed 1 of my thermometer probes next to the pits temperature probe and the 2 temps were no more than 5-10 degrees apart. I also took the 2 pitboss probes that came with my grill and laid them tip to tip with the 4 wireless probes I have and got similar results. Unless I see something drastic happen I'm not going to worry about the temps anymore. I'll just get fat and happy eating what ever comes off the grill.

Since the 1150 is basically clean AND working perfectly for you try and keep it that way. Having both mods on my 1100 also, I also carefully wash the fixed internal temp probe every 2-3 cooks with dish soap and rag then rinse off to remove buildup / discoloring from probe surface. My temp indicator once at the setting stays put on the readout with very little fluctuations. My thoughts are any buildup would affect the temperature of the probe itself / readout display, with the internal temperature than would be different. Maybe I am wrong but in the end, keeping the probe clean can't hurt, glad things are working out so far for you.

she is getting a bath this evening and getting a pork roast tomorrow morning

The barrel temp should agree fairly closely with the controller SP. It can take 30 to 90 minutes to stabilize. Did you give it enough time to stabilize?

I resemble that remark:

Yes I have. I was also with PB support to try to troubleshoot the problem and he gave me a couple of things to try. I will do a brisket this weekend and see if those things make a difference
