Heat Deflector/ Airgap Mod?

If I make a flame tamer would it be wise make the height adjustable? Or is there a good number that has been thrown out there to get the thing right?

I made mine to just clear the sear plate. I'm not fully convinced it helps any, much less an adjustable one.

I used my slide plate as i never used the sear function....
Smoothed out my up and down swings and meat cooks/smokes more evenly on the grates....

I did the mod on my Pro Series 1600. Can’t say that it helped or hurt but seemed to make sense. Also got the 4 window flame tamer fire pot deflector. Seems to help prevent the hot spot over the fire pot. I usually put a water pan over it anyway so I’m not sure if it helps either. It’s easy to remove if you want to do any type of sear on your meat, just have to do it before you start the grill. Not sure how well all the gadgets work just watched a bunch of YouTube videos and went on everyone’s suggestions prior to doing the trial and error myself.
