Help with new Pit Boss 1150 temp control.

So I almost got the 1150 just for the ash tray, but I went with the 850 cause I really didn't need that big, and I'm really glad I did after reading all the problems you all have with the 1150. At least my 850 keeps any temp I set it at, not sure how accurate but it does maintain temps very well. I do have to clean and vacuum out the fire pot every use (too mush ash build up) but it's not that bad. The grommet for the slide handle split in two on first use (ID and OD are too close) but that's not a problem cause I plan on a modification to the slider anyway. I still don't know what Smoke Density Control is but that's another issue.

I still would like 5 degree increments on one of these controllers. Does the 850 have the 225, 250, 275 issues?

5 degree increments would be great, that's the bad thing about these PID controllers, they are capable of it just need to be designed that way.
The 850 does not have 275.
it has S, 200, 225, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, I think 475 and High (the S is for smoke)
and it does keep the temp. very well, no fluctuation.

Hopefully, Pit Boss will be able to send out a fix via WiFi/Bluetooth to the Controllers Firmware too correct the Temp setting issues. Much easier to download an update to fix glitches, then to have someone have to wait and replace an entire Controller... It would be more cost effective as well. Dansons Corp/Pit Boss is a great company and hopefully the fix will be available soon.

Pellet Pro Austin XL and a few more mods... In SoCal and Always... Semper Fi
From my understanding and they are looking at controller replacement. I beleive there is an acutal hardware problem with the controller that is causing the problem. If it is a software issue it would be fixed by now so I agree Pit Boss will fix it and get this right for all the consumers.

Majority of Pit Boss grilsl do not do 275, but I was told that some verticals do have 275. Does your vertical have a 275 setting?

Seeing everyone talking about a case number I called pitboss back, the representative I spoke to was well informed of the issue!
Corporate is hush hush about what the outcome will be and it appears that the issue is dealing with a overheating capability they tried to tie into the programming and it hasn’t performed as expected. problem only pertains to the 1150ps2, if under 90 days you can return to Lowe’s no questions asked.

I was reassured this has the correct level of attention and a solution is in the works but the representatives have been left in the dark (probably to not promise false hope before it’s obtainable)

so I like the pitboss if I exchange it what would you all recommend as an alternative? I like the Bluetooth capability of being able to use my PB probes but I can buy an after market solution for that.
I just got off the phone with Pitt Boss they said to remove internal temp probe and reinstall it and see if that resolves the issue. I will try that but personally I think the problem is in the controller itself.

Called PB this afternoon, and received a call back. This is a known problem with the PB1150, and corporate is still trying to figure out a solution. So, we need to be patient. I have learned to adapt with the temperatures, although it is not an ideal situation. There will be options for us with the PB1150 units.
I have been having that same problem. Could the temperature controller be modified? I have to babysit the grill and constantly adjust the temperature control. Kind of like my wood smoker in temperature variation, but easier To manage. What’s the temperature control for anyway? I’m not impressed with the temperature controller.

When the temp controllers work properly they are awesome. On a long cook I put the meat on and go to sleep I set my inkbird term alarm to go off when it gets to the temp to wrap or take off. Like they say set it and forget it.

the problem of letting go on the long cook is the pellet hopper is not design to handle a long cook. The Pellets do not feed to the auger they get hung up around the walls of the hopper like there is no gravity. You will get a flame out as the pellets will stop feeding. You need to check the hopper every hour to stir the pellets so they feed to the auger.

I am new to pellet grills , but do know some people that totall fill up their hoppers and go to bed and get up early and check the grill. They swear that they have had no issues doing this. I am new to pellet grills so I don’t know if this is the correct information he gave me. So I will try a long day cook and see if I need to stir the pellets.

Josh keep calling Pit Boss support as it definetly sounds like a controller issue as there are too many consumers with the same issue. I would stress to them this needs to be fixed or they need to send you a new controller.
Can you change the controller with a controller made by a different company, if so which companies offer a Bluetooth WiFi controller that would work on a pit boss pro 1150?

yes you just have to make sure you match the wires.
