Help with new Pit Boss 1150 temp control.

I didn’t know I had a smoke density control on the 1150. It has a recipe function that I am clueless about.
You don't have a Smoke Density Control, but it says you do on the box and on the big poster that was under the hood.
see my avatar too, The recipe function is useless, I tried to use it and after the first step it shuts off the grill, plus when you power down, all recipe entries are forgotten, so you would have to program it every time you use it.

There is a button that says f/c is that it?

I can’t find a smoke density on mine
No, there is none, I don't know why they advertised that on the box, it was a one of the reasons I got the PB850PS2 model.
But I am having a pretty good time with it so far. There is a learning curve.

I agree I have made some rookie mistakes with it., I am more familiar with stick burners and electric smokers. I would recommend it to someone looking for a good smoker grill. I think it’s a great deal for the price.

Makes perfectly good sense to me. They overthought all the things it could have but couldn’t get the things right that it does actually have. Can’t do 5 degree increments, absolutely will not cook at 275. But being it’s made in China, high heat make for bad rat. 🤓

Seeing everyone talking about a case number I called pitboss back, the representative I spoke to was well informed of the issue!
Corporate is hush hush about what the outcome will be and it appears that the issue is dealing with a overheating capability they tried to tie into the programming and it hasn’t performed as expected. problem only pertains to the 1150ps2, if under 90 days you can return to Lowe’s no questions asked.

I was reassured this has the correct level of attention and a solution is in the works but the representatives have been left in the dark (probably to not promise false hope before it’s obtainable)

so I like the pitboss if I exchange it what would you all recommend as an alternative? I like the Bluetooth capability of being able to use my PB probes but I can buy an after market solution for that.
My PB820PS1 has the same issue the actual temperature inside is much much lower than what the controller display reads. My 3rd controller and probe are on the way.

Today was the first time I had temperature issues. Luckily it cleared itself up. Had it set for 300. Put meat on the pit and it dropped to 178. Took a while but it went back to 300 and held for 3 hours. By the way, this is a back strap from an Aoudad I shot this past weekend. Send some love fellas.

Just got off the phone with Pitboss support again to raise some more hell.. She is saying that the engineering team is working on a fix that should be pushed out through the SmokeIT app ("in the not too distant future").. As someone who is in the IT field.. this doesn't make sense, because I haven't seen any indication that the SmokeIT app has the ability to push firmware updates(Nor would I want to trust that buggy app). I also told her I want a new PID sent with the updated firmware. She said she would have to let me know if she would be able to fulfill that request. We will see!

I was using the app on my 10th cook last night and it kept turning the temp to H. It did it 3 different times and I had to go out and manually adjust it. Not happy with this thing at all.

My wife upgraded me from the Lexington to the 1150 and I was stoked until I saw complaints of it not holding temps. I ran it a couple days ago just to see what mine would do. Outdoor temps were mild and there was a slight breeze. I started it up and set the temp to 350 and let it hang there for a bit. Held fine. From there I dropped it to 250. It held fine and the 2 probes I had at opportunitie ends of the grill were within 10 degrees of the set temp. Dropped to 225 and 200 and the results were the same. It ran for at least 8 hours with no issues to report. This is only my second time running it. The first was the burn off with a test run of pig shots. Seems to be fairly solid for me so

That’s comforting I hope it remains that way for you. Now post some pictures of your products! Lol
