New Pitboss Grills App

It just really seemed like it was connected to another smoker because I could change the temps and their where fluctuations so the app was getting those numbers from someplace so for now I’ll just use the controller on the grill I have had it about two years and make something big bout once a week pretty much always a 15 hour cook I love the thing I just don’t trust the app any more and won’t put it in my phone the temps should not have changed when I set them to change I think it was controlling someone else’s grill and none of my neighbors have one I always share with them I’m the only one around here with one and they wouldn’t be on my router even if they did .
I was just saying it's wifi so it could be in anyone's back yard not limited to distance. And changing those things should change everything and break the connection

Yea it’s just weird the only thing I can think of is theirs some of these units that have the same MAC address programmed in to their Wi-Fi cards on the board like the ip addresses will always be behind the router but the MAC address that’s programed in to the chip and that stays the same so anything that gets on the internet has its own Unique device identifier and I’m not sure if that’s how it works or not maybe it goes by the serial number of each unit and then runs to a server that lets us connect and control it when we are not home ,But it’s raining here today and I have it sitting at 220 about to cook a pork roast on it hehehe but I’m not using that app till they have a few revisions of it.

I've had "app issues" like not being able to connect the grill to wifi or bluetooth since I bought my unit in November 2020. Sometimes it'll work for a day and then I can't use it again for a month. I always have to unplug the grill and plug it back in for the off-chance it might work.

With this new Pit Boss app, I again can't find/connect to the grill. If I unplug the grill and wait a minute, plug it back in -- It'll show up in "LightBlue" app for about 10 seconds before it disappears into the nether again. It has an incredibly weak signal on the rare occasion I can see it, even with my phone 5 inches from the module.

If I'm able to get the new app to partially find the grill via bluetooth in this 10 second window, I begin to add it to wifi - and before I can complete it, bluetooth from the grill is back off and I can't connect to wifi or bluetooth again.

Today I tried for an hour or so to get it working. The iT light was flashing for the whole hour. Eventually, I gave up and left it powered off but plugged in. Come back an hour later, the iT light is solid - but still no app connectivity on the new Pit Boss app or the old Smoke iT app.

I had similar issues with the first WiFi Legacy controller I bought. It would connect to Bluetooth but not WiFi and it would not complete the update with the new app. I called Pitboss and they sent me a new controller that works as advertised. The app will need a few updates to be really good but it works as is. You may just need a replacement controller.

Pit Boss CS has agreed to send me a replacement controller, thanks!

My grill is not “truly” connecting to WiFi with the new app. When going through the WiFi connection process, it says that it’s connected successfully, but the card says “not connected”. As soon as I get out of Bluetooth range, I lose all connection, thus proving that WiFi isn’t connected. I’ve swapped between my normal 2.4 GHz connection and a WiFi extender. I’ve even put the WiFi extender in the garage, approximately 15 ft from the grill and received similar results. I’m skeptical that it’s an issue with my WiFi or connection between it and the grill, since all other devices are working fine and the grill never had issues with the old app. My guess is that something is causing an issue on the new app, or the update that was pushed when I downloaded the new app…?
Yesterday I was having this exact same issue with the smoke it app.

My issue with new app is my account.

Go to login in with pit boss account says customer not found.
Go to create new account says email already used.

I finally got my new 1150 Pro Series PID controller and I can’t get it to update. It’s doing the same thing as my other WiFi controller. During the set up is says that WiFi connected and the iT on the display is solid (indicating connection) but the app doesn’t recognize the connection. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to update the controller with Bluetooth. I’ve uninstalled the grill on the app and reinstalled it still no luck. Pit Boss must get this app to work easier and more consistently.

I downloaded the new app and let it do its thing for my PBV4PS2 and its running great. Temperature on the smoker is matching two other separate temperature probes. So far so good, I'm impressed. I can now make 10 deg adjusted from the house.

Will the new app have the ability to graph out the cook with temps and time like the Smoke iT app? Not the biggest deal breaker in the world but its helpful for longer cooks.

2 out of 3 WiFi controllers I have will not complete the update on the new PB app. Looks like I’ll be on the phone with tech support tomorrow unless anyone knows a trick how to get them to update on Bluetooth.

Is there a reason that the App only allows temperature increments of 25 deg F?

have used it twice (new app) and on Samsung s22 the Temps are on a sliding scale and are do fast. All you have to do is scroll. I would bet 99.99.999999% really like the smaller temp increments from complaints I've seen in the past.
