Pit Boss 1600 Pro Series won't connect to 64GHz wifi. Had to return it!!

I feel your pain. Can't get firmware to update. Disabled the 5ghz on my ATT router. Still not able to update firmware. Bought a dedicated 2.4ghz router. Plugged it into an ethernet port. Able to see my 2.4ghz network. PB app said connected to 2.4ghz router, but when I login to router can't see the PB MAC address. PB support has been a waste of time. My firmware level is d60. PB support tells me that is your problem you need to be on d62. Waited for OTA (Over the Air) update that was promised by PB support. That never happened. Beyond frustrated.

I am very disappointed with this malfunction of PB's equipment. If I wanted to spend all my time checking the temp, I'd just get a new stick grill. The problem is their problem, they need to stand behind their equipment and make sure these grills are upgradable and work the way they advertise them. I went ahead and kept it because I was going to do what you've done, but obviously, I might as well keep my money. Appreciate your input!

Don't use WiFi for update use BT. Just plug in unit don't turn on. This is what I had to do...I know very strange

I cooked ribs last night, and I had a terrible time with the temp settings. I dialed up 275°, but the temp digital readout got up to 330, 320, 302, up and down. I finally put an oven temp reader in, placed on the right then on the left and it read between 250° and 275°. It said 275 in the small letters below the actual readouts. So, there was confusion throughout the cooking session of 4 hours. I've had better luck over brickets!!

Thank you for the information. Quick question on BT. If the PB grill is connected to your phone shouldn't it show up in the BT devices list as being connected?
you should see it in your devices and it should connect to the existing app. Yes it takes a bit using BT to complete, so i guess they are updating the wifi drivers in the process

Pit Boss 1600 Pro Series won't connect to 64GHz wifi. I was told I have to call my Internet provider and switch to 24GHx which is slower. Why does this require a slower connection? Im returning the smoker because of this. Anyone else have yhis problem?😮‍💨
It sounds frustrating that your Pit Boss 1600 Pro Series smoker won’t connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi. Many smart devices, including some grills and smokers, are designed to work better with 2.4GHz networks. Here’s why:

  1. Range and Compatibility: The 2.4GHz band has a longer range and better penetration through walls and obstacles, making it more reliable for devices that are not close to the router.
  2. Device Limitations: Some devices simply don’t support 5GHz Wi-Fi due to hardware limitations. If the smoker is only compatible with 2.4GHz, it won’t connect to a 5GHz network.
  3. Interference: The 2.4GHz band is more crowded due to other devices (like microwaves and Bluetooth devices) but can still be effective for IoT devices that require stable connectivity over longer distances. see this for more information: https://spurmenu.co.za/spur-steaks-menu/
