New Pitboss Grills App

I finally gave up using the old SmokeIT app and downloaded the new one. Upgraded as requested and did a couple of quick smoke/grills. Today I started a 5 pound sirloin tip roast. I set a temperature on probe one and now I get a message that the grill turned off about every 15 minutes, I respond no to continue cooking but the probe temperature has reset. Make all the corrections and wait for the next outage cycle. I waited this long for the new app to prove stable before installing. Guess I didn't wait long enough.

Love my 850, just wish the app had been/was/could be as good as the grill.....

Does anybody know if there's a different app that can work with my grill?
My app is doing the same thing. Has there been any resolution to this problem?

I can't adjust my probe set temp on my android but it let's me on my iPad

When I click on target temperature it's just blank on the android. It won't register any numbers I type but on the iPad it let's me set it. Not sure if it's a problem with android optimization or with my particular device.

Hello,

Are you using a Android phone? if that's the case as a work around (till we fix it) and this happens to you you don't need to reboot the phone and can just force close the app to stop the alarm, to do that just bring the app list on screen (usually done by pressing the "square" button) and swipe the pitboss up to the top (or to the bottom) and that should close the app and shut down the alarm!
I'm experiencing the same issue. How long does it take for the team to fix these bugs?

When using the LG or Pittboss app. Is anyone having issues with MP1? when setting an alarm temp on the app it will stay at zezo. MP2 works fine.
When I manually set it on the controller using the MPC button when MP1 blinks and I set the alarm temp it will reflect back in the app under D1 (MP1). But when I manually change MP2 at the controller it changes D1 (MP1) on the app but is still showing under MP2 on the controller. Really weird. Think there is a software/Firmware glitch going on.

Android app stopped working after recent update. Cannot complete firmware update and app will not work until it updates. Did get to 18% once, but didn't complete and won't do anything since. Worked fine until recently. Tried all the suggestions I have been able to find.

UPDATE: After a lot of testing, I finally got the firmware update to complete by trying repeatedly and restarting the phone each attempt. I think the update server would drop the connection and app wouldn't close that connection without a restart. No failed update should prevent an app from doing its job. The server and app needs some additional work in this area. Cheers

Hello,
As you probably already know PitBoss have been launching their new App for Android and iOS devices!
I'm one of the app developer and I'd like to give you a quick list of issues/questions you might have and solutions/answers:

  • I'm getting a lot of server errors or the app get stuck loading: Unfortunately we had some issues with our server just after launch that caused all these problems but they have been fixed and the app should be working fine now.
  • I'm not able to login or reset my password: Unfortunately the new app is completely separate from the old SmokeIT app; as such you will not be able to use the same account, but if you already have an account on pitboss-grills.com then you can use that one, or you can create a new account (even using the same credentials you have been using on SmokeIT).
  • The app doesn't see my grill: Make sure you have bluetooth enabled and (if using android) location enabled, also make sure you are close to the grill (I’d suggest within 5ft for this initial setup). Also if you own more than one grill, make sure only one is plugged in while adding them to the app.
  • Cannot connect my grill to WiFi network: If you cannot see your WiFi network on the app, first make sure you are not too far from your router, one way to do that is by staying with your phone next to your grill and see if you can connect to the WiFi network with your phone. If the WiFi network is in range but you still cannot see it listed there might be two possible reasons:
    1) there are other WiFi networks with a stronger signal that your grill is detecting, in this case you will still be able to connect by using the last option in the grill list that reads ">> Enter manually << and in this case you'll have to enter all details like the network name and the password manually.
    2) your WiFi network is configured to only work in the 5Ghz mode; the 5GHz mode is a "new" high performance mode that works great with devices that requires high bandwidth like laptops, phones or tablets, but is not ideal for IoT devices like your grill because it requires more power and more resources to be used so your grill will not be able to connect to a 5Ghz network, but don't despair, your router can be configured to work both in 5Ghz and 2.4GHz at the same time, leaving you the benefits of the high speed 5GHz and allowing you to connect many IoT devices, unfortunately the settings needed to be changed depends on your router, the easiest way to change those settings is probably to contact your provider and ask them to enable the dual band mode.
  • The App is asking me to update my grill, do I have to do it?: Yes you need to update your grill in order to control it with our new app, the update process is pretty simple and you only need to leave your phone close to your grill with the app open for 5 to 15 minutes (if you were able to connect the grill to wifi the process will be faster, otherwise it will be slower, but in any case shouldn't take more than 15 minutes)
  • I have updated my grill, can I still use SmokeIT ?: No, after you have updated your grill you will not be able to use it with SmokeIT anymore, but hopefully you will enjoy our new app a lot more and you will never want to go back to SmokeIT :)
  • Will the app sends notification when temperatures are reached?: Yes you will receive notification when the grill reach the set temperature or when probes reach the set temperatures, but be aware that for best reliability of this feature is better to connect your grill to WiFi.
  • Can I connect the same grill to more than one phone/tablet? Yes you can connect your grill to as many devices as you want, and you will receive notifications on all your devices! Also you can control your Grill from multiple devices at the same time!
  • Can I connect more than one grill on my phone ? Yes you can connect more than one grill, and you can control them all together from the same phone/tablet.
  • Some/all temperature settings i have on my grill/smoker are not available in the app: We designed the new app to mirror the same exact temperature settings you can set on your grill, so it's very important to select the correct grill/smoker model when adding it to the app. If you selected the correct model but you are still seeing different temperatures please let us know so we can investigate the issue ! If you selected the wrong model you need to remove the grill (click the pencil icon in the "grill" card, and then use the "trash" button in the top-right corner) and add it again!.
If you encounter other issues please let us know!
Last but not least, if you like the new app please don't forget to give us a nice rating, and if you are encountering issues please let us know and give us a couple day to fix it before giving a bad rating !
Thank you, we hope you enjoy our new app!
Just bought the Louisiana LG1000BL. For the life of me, the Pitboss app will not find the grill via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth on my phone finds it just fine but the app just keeps saying "try again".

I had same issue. There is a separate app for Louisiana. Google Louisiana grills. App was on that site and works perfectly for me. Call customer service if you have trouble. They walked me through it.

Must be a problem. Mine diverts to MP2 each time on set temp of MP1.

Purchased legacy smoke it controller for my navigator. No problem connecting to APP, but when I turned it on this morning it would not power on. Then I noticed an L82 code or L02. Finally got it on but screen was barely lit, then proceeded to trip off after a few mins. This happened several times to the point I put the old controller back in.

Anyone else have total failure like me?
I only have a problem in cold weather with my older non bluetooth Navigator. My newer Louisiana with bluetooth works good in cold weather. I called Pit Boss and they said my Navigator controller should work in cold weather. Multiple times last winter would not power up. I would take it inside for an hour. Pull it back to patio and it would work once it got started despite the cold. Purchased a new Louisiana last February and never had any isuues.

Hello,

My husband and I have both installed the Pit Boss Android App from the Google Play Store.
His won't connect with the BT, but mine does.
His connects using the home WiFi as mine does.

Yes, the obvious has been done: ensure BT is turned on, restart the phone, uninstall/reinstall the app and set the grill up again, location is on, within 5' of the grill, etc..

He also cannot control the grill from his phone unless we delete and add the grill back each time we want to manage it from the phone.

Another issue is setting the probe temperatures. This is happening on both our phones. Click a meat selection and attempt to add the desired temp within range and it does nothing. Can't type and selecting the meat icon and Set Temperature changes nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Grill was purchased and picked up by us - set up by Lowes. No visible damage. First use is today.

Phones:

Pixel 7 (husband)
Pixel 6 Pro (mine)

Pit Boss App info:

version 1.1.4

Two devices trying to control/monitor one grill? It's confused which to talk to.
No, the app can be on two devices per the developers notes above in this thread. I'm not controlling anything on my phone just viewing it. If I don't have the app open on my phone he still has the BT connection issue and the probe issue.
