Will the new smoke it app work on the old Pro850 control panel? Will we still be unable to set the temp at 375°?

Well. As bad as I hate it myself, I’m right there with ya BoilerBrewer. I haven’t cooked on my PBV4PS2 is several days and had pretty much made up my mind not to…..until the new app was downloaded and installed. My experience with the existing app was crazy. A couple of times at least I could monitor it from inside the house where it’s cool. But the thing would keep doing crazy stuff. The first very few cooks at least I could monitor it. I learned right quick not to make any changes from it. I also learned very quick it couldn’t be trusted. Thank God Almighty I had my wireless temp probes in there especially the last couple of times I tried to use it. Once and I believe it was the last cook, I noticed my temp was holding especially great and was having fun watching the little fan and auger icons coming on and off. (Picture Larry the Cable Guy here. Lol)
But I glanced over at my probe Reciever and dang the one I had mounted on the rack was like 480 degrees! The app was showing a pretty steady 250 and with the icons doing their thing I felt confident all was well. BUT my separate probes don’t lie!!!
I literally jumped up and went to the garage and the control panel itself was showing the high temp and it in fact was insanely high. The app still showed the setting at 250. However when I checked the control it was set on an H or something. I had never even seen that before much less used it. Assuming High??
Anyway I immediately shut off the app. Opened the smokers door to let it cook down. And reset the temp back to 250.
now I may be a little jumbled in some of this but honestly I was freaking my 66 year old butt out. I didn’t know the ‘Right’ thing to do. But best I remember that’s how it went down.
I watched the act temp on the control panel and also my Amazon probes. lol. And it slowly dropped back down. I stayed out there with it awhile till I felt reasonably sure it was OK and came back in the house. I just watched my probes temp from them on and wound up going out about every 15 minutes to just check. I really do want to like this thing. And honestly I HAVE become more efficient with it. From the folks in here. But as far as a set n forget it smoker. No way. After awhile I happened to look at my iPhone and the dang thing was showing the app running. Crazy settings. Act, set even icons moving. But my probes were still looking good so I didn’t panic this time. I went back out and found all good with the smoker. The control panel was good. But the dam app was showing things completely different. Lol. Went back in the house and uninstalled it. Physically got up and went to check very often. I knew the app was gone but now I didn’t trust anything on it at all.
I have installed and removed that thing probably 1/2 dozen times. And every time it would act up and do something crazy.
Once I was shopping for some chicken to do. Was about 10 miles from the house. Anyway I needed the time and didn’t wear a watch that day so I checked it on my iPhone. Well crap. Dang thing showed it on and cooking!!
For a guy with a few years and three heart bypasses and bad lungs, I was doing an OJ Simpson running through the airport… at our Ingles market. Lol. Then I realized hey that things not plugged in. Lol. It’s tucked away in the garage with its cover in it.
After I got home. Well we uninstall again.
I’ve got way off track folks and I apologize. I’m trying to be positive and patient. But wow I guess I’m venting.
I don’t believe anyone would come in here and yank all our chains. Surely not. So Smoke IT Guy if you’re reading this I hope you believe me when I say I think you’re on the up n up. But I wonder if PB isn’t playing games. Dragging their rears.
All I’ve read everywhere is problems problems problems. With the app. And controls. I can’t count how many I’ve read about having to be replaced.
I’ve mentioned more than once I got a very good deal on mine. That and the fact it had these app features is why I bought it.
probably thousands have been sold, and I’ll guarantee most of us bought because of these features.
There’s suppose to be, well I can’t remember that huge number off hand, that’s working perfectly?
I don’t think if heard of a single one functioning as it should.
I ask again, man, if you’re reading this don’t take any of it personal. I’m probably the most patient guy in here. It would be so great to use this thing as I bought it for.
Right now I’d just about stay out in the heat and feed that stick burner. At least I’d have super Smokey flavor. Lol.
Again. To all. I apologize for the rant.
And am still hopeful this comes to be.

Yeah...I held off a cook until yesterday hoping the new app would be available on Monday as originally scheduled. It was just a couple of pork butts, so I had a lot of wiggle room as far as temps are concerned, so I didn't even bother with it. It's not even on my phone any longer in case there is an update any time soon.
Like you, I don't think the Smoke IT guy a troll. Someone else in another thread called him by name, so he must have some credibility. But, after getting our hopes up, it would be nice if he'd give us some kind of new timeline. Unless he's just having fun at our expense, he's clearly had some contact with Apple.
To be fair, when I bought my BPV4 I knew the controller was suspect and the app sucked, so it's not as if I was blindsided. But, having been "promised" an amazing update (with tabs at the bottom and all kinds of improvements), it would be nice to see it actually materialize.

Agreed. And again there’s no doubt in my mind he’s legit. I mentioned somewhere else if it had been my job, I wouldn’t have mentioned a word until that app was actually available.
And yea I was kinda like you as far as not being totally blindsided.
if I have a REAL bone to pick it would be with Lowe’s. I’ve got several other cookers. Grills smokers. Etc.
I needed this thing like another hole in my head. But again, I was infatuated with the pellet thing and I got a great deal on it.
I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t know much about them. I HAD read there were some app issues. But honestly, the sales guy sold me on two things. They were THE best smokers as far as good and easy smoke flavor. And when I asked about the app he told me the complaints were way overrated. He had never had a complaint.
Right now in all my junk I have a Pit Boss Hammertone S2 I believe. Chip burner. Electric.
In reality that thing will maintain temp as good as anything. And the chip pan allows real wood smoke. It’s a great little smoker. I’ve had it awhile now. It was my ‘easy machine’ if I didn’t feel like messing with the offset or gas smoker.
I can set the temp on it and really forget it. Like most of this stuff the act temp the machine displays varies from my probe. But I just adjust it to a good temp on my probe and let r roll. Of course the cooks are probed as well.
So right now I have to ask. Why even at a good price did I buy this thing. If the app and its features aren’t there well the little Hammertone walks all over it. And there’s no hunting and trying the pellet thing. Just put whatever chips ya like and go.
I do usually fill the chip pan one more time. Most cooks. But hey that’s what 5 minutes out of my life?!?!?!
I’m gonna shut up. Lol. But when a company sells multi thousands of cookers that have some great features from an app….. and they don’t…..I’m surprised there has t been real problems for em.
And to clarify. I like my Bosses. and for some crazy reason including this one. They’re built very well.
but if somebody asked. Which actually they have. I’ve told em I’d go with a PB similar to my Hammertone and cook.

The Pitboss(Danson) Enterprise should give a refund of some sort for false advertising as far as being able to control the Smart IT controller from your iPhone or Android. I purchased a new Pitboss Pellet/Grill combo with the hope that the app would work. I did this to help with cooking during the hot/humid summers in Florida. Little did I know that the Pitboss(Danson) enterprise probably got hacked(ransomware) as evidenced by the weeks long wait for the pitboss-grill-com to come 1/4 of the way back up as well as you cannot register your new grill by phone either. The Smoke IT app guy is on the level. He is just the middle man between the app and the Pitboss company. This is my second Pitboss grill and I am starting to have regrets buying this grill. I am patient, but my patience is starting to wear very thin. I am retired US Army and did the "hurry up and wait thin" for over 21 years, but this is not a hurry up and wait it is just a wait and wait and wait and wait and wait with a lot of lame excuse.
Still waiting. I keep checking like a madman because the app needs serious help. I don’t know what’s going on but it’s becoming quite irritating. First it was 8/1, then 8/3, now who knows? I feel like this was just told to us to keep us quiet and to not switch brands.

Wow. I’m still hopeful. Anxious. Trying to be positive…….
But seems like there would be some kind of news on this today.
I’m sure there could be some issues with Apple and the developers. But why drop out of sight? Surely PB monitors this forum? I would have thought somebody from the company would address this with as much attention and comments that are being made about it.
Can’t say I’d blame anybody for laying low after the way things have turned. But I’d think SOMEBODY from the company would be aware and address this. Being delayed is one thing. And COULD be understandable. But to completely ignore it after all the activity. Well that just seems like bad business.
But I’m still hopeful.

I downloaded the Smoke-it app and it downloaded as smoke it legacy. I created a new account and I don’t see any tabs

the old smoke it appears the old version.

I don’t know if I’d call em tabs. But did u see Rhe pics at App Store? At bottom Ans several categories including recipes etc. Is that what you downloaded looks like ?

I downloaded the one that has the lifestyle +17, but when it completed downloading it say smoke it legacy. There is no where to create a new account other than in the original smoke it app
