2nd shelf rather then support rods on Ultimate Griddle

Hello, I just ordered the 4 burner Ultimate Pit Boss Lift off griddle. I notice it has 4 chrome rods connecting the 4 legs and I'm sure it's for support. Has anyone inquired to Pit Boss about an optional shelf instead of the rods. Additional shelf, more storage!
